Murder-Suicide Investigation in King & Queen County

Sheriff's deputies and State Police found Thomas Stout, 42, and his wife Robin Stout, 48, dead inside their home on Elsom Mascot Road just after 9:00 Saturday night. They say Mr. Stout used a hand gun to kill his wife and then himself. It was a chilling thought for neighbors like Mark Drexler.

"I didn't sleep at all last night," said Drexler. "It seemed like a lot of chaos and caused a lot of worry for our family and everybody that's around."

The couple even had a 12-year-old daughter. Police say she wasn't home at the time and now she's with relatives.

"We're trying to contact the family to see if they'd like to set up a fund of some type," said King and Queen County Sheriff J.R. Charboneau. "At this time we haven't been able to reach them."

Neighbors say the family had lived out here since 1996 and that this isn't the first time sheriff's deputies have been called out to the home. According to the sheriff, deputies have been called out to the home at least twice in the past several years.

Drexler and his family own land surrounding the Stout's home. He's still trying to come to terms after hearing about the tragedy. His biggest worry is the couple's daughter who no longer has her parents.

"That's a person me and my family will try and take care of after this because it's the right thing to do," Drexler noted. "It's hard to believe. We live in a small, quiet community, but it can happen anywhere, so things always happen for a reason."

Investigators have not released a motive at this time. Deputies say this is the first murder investigation in nearly 10 years.
