Two guns were found at two Virginia schools Tuesday - and in one case, not only was the weapon loaded, but it was found by students in a pre-K class.
Principal Dr. Catherine Whisman admits the news of the deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary has some students at "Star of the Sea" Catholic school in Virginia Beach, frightened.
At 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, kids were at recess, when some pre-K children discovered the gun by the fence.
"They saw the gun on the playground and ran immediately to the teacher and told them that they didn't touch it," said Whisman. "The teachers immediately lined them up. Took them into the building."
"I thought it was great how they handled it," said Ann Barker. "Parents were notified immediately, the children's safety was the first thing they had in mind. Police were notified immediately."
But, how did a loaded gun end up at an elementary school?
Virginia Beach Police believe suspects in a nearby attempted robbery tossed the weapon during a foot chase.
Police also found an unloaded shot gun and hunting knife in a student's car, at Kempsville High. It appears the student forgot they were in the car, but still faces serious charges.
