Dr. Anada ChellappanHenrico police have arrested a Chesterfield doctor after a patient said he touched her inappropriately.
According to Henrico police, the 32-year-old female patient said Dr. Anada Chellappan, 68, fondled her at his office on Cutshaw Avenue December 7.
Detectives charged Chellappan with a misdemeanor count of sexual battery.
NBC12 went to Chellappan's office where a sign on his door said the doctor was out due to a family emergency.
His office staff told NBC12 that isn't the case. He wasn't there because of his arrest.
However, his friends and colleagues say they're standing by Chellappan because the incident doesn't sound like something he's capable of.
"He's been great to the community for over 30 years," said Sara Barrille, Dr. Chellappan's office manager. "To work so hard and have a claim like this is sad."
Barrille says Dr. Chellappan works with patients as young as seven-years-old with no age limit. He works with patients dealing with addiction, serious mental illness and mental handicaps.
Chellappan was released on bond and will be back in court January 13.
