A two block radius is being evacuated after a gas main ruptures in Richmond. A spokesman with the Richmond Fire Department tells us around 3:35 p.m. Sunday they started receiving phone calls about a strong gas odor in the 2500 block of Phaup Street, that's near Fairfield Court Elementary School.
When crews arrived they confirmed there was a gas leak. The Department of Public Utilities is now on scene trying to fix the situation.
In the meantime people are being evacuated and police have closed several streets in that area, including Phaup Street, 26th Street, 27th Street, and Kane Street.
We have a crew on the scene. Look for the latest on-air and online.
