New Products Put High Tech Features and High Tech Safety in Customer’s Hands
Spokane, WA (PRWEB) December 14, 2012
Online retailer and outdoor authority Mountain Gear has built its reputation by providing its customers access to products from the leading edge of the industry. This year’s spread of high tech gifts for the winter sports enthusiast continues that tradition.
There was a time when the ski goggle was a simple affair that offered the skier or snowboarder eye protection and little more. Two new models from Smith Optics and Zeal Optics are shattering consumer expectations for what a goggle can do.
The Smith I/O Recon swaggers onto the scene with the same type of heads-up display that communicates key information to fighter pilots. The MOD (Micro Optics Display) Live Technology system tracks vertical gain and loss, temperature, GPS location, distance, altitude, and speed. Smartphone connectivity works in tandem with a wrist-top wireless remote to allow the winter athlete to send and receive text messages, access caller ID, scroll through music tracks, and adjust volume. Paired with that technology are the features of a great goggle: quick-change, anti-fog lenses and full helmet compatibility.
For this holiday season, Zeal Optic, an industry leader in GPS goggle technology, unveils their iON camera goggle. The iON features a high-definition, 1080p video camera and 8-megapixel still camera embedded in a top-of-the-line ski goggle. A sophisticated 170-degree wide angle lens captures that image and glove-friendly buttons on the side keep the skier in control in the coldest weather. A rechargeable lithium-ion battery enjoys a six-hour run time. With a mini-USB connection and micro-SD card, there are multiple ways to share and save video and still images to storage devices and social media outlets.
A familiar name in technology circles, GoPro, has released an important update to their iconic helmet cam called the GoPro HERO3. Available in both Black and Silver Editions, this important evolution is smaller and lighter than its predecessors but still manages to deliver Wi-Fi connectivity, high definition performance and waterproof durability.
There’s a serious side to the technology story this year, too. New advances in avalanche airbags promise to save countless lives in the backcountry by preventing or minimizing burial in the event of a slide.
Mammut, a venerated Swiss company with deep roots in the alpine community, was at the forefront of the avalanche air bag movement. This year, their Ride Removable Airbag System adds a valuable margin of safety for the backcountry skier or boarder. Along the same lines, the Backcountry Access Float 22 is a lightweight minimalist backpack that can still save a life.
