Crews are working on a gas leak that had been causing traffic issues since Tuesday evening.
Crews say there's much more work to make sure the problem is fixed for good. Officials say Pemberton Road will remain closed until the gas line and the actual road way are repaired.
The gas leak closed Pemberton Road between Quarter Mill and Three Chopt roads in western Henrico around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Three Chopt Road was reopened shortly after City Gas arrived on scene. It took just over an hour and a half for the gas to stop flowing from the roadway.
When the leak happened Tuesday, gas was actually shooting 50 feet into the air. People in the area could smell the gas as far away as Gaskins Road. Some in the area were even asked to evacuate.
Henrico fire officials, utility crews, and VDOT all responded to the scene where they found a huge hole. After an hour and a half, crews were able to stop the gas from flowing.
