UPS driver shot while on the job in Petersburg

Petersburg investigators identified persons of interest in the shooting of a UPS driver late Tuesday, less than a day after the victim was shot in the leg.

The unidentified victim remains in stable condition at Southside Regional Medical Hospital,  receiving treatment for a single gunshot wound.

Police have not named a suspect in Monday night's shooting, as residents of the Lieutenants Run Apartments help investigators piece together what happened.

"There was panic, we didn't know what was going on," said a witness in an interview Tuesday. "The man was lying on the ground right in front of my apartment screaming, 'help me, I've been shot.'"

Witnesses asked to remain anonymous, for fear the suspect could live in the same apartment complex. A woman described multiple police cars descending upon the crime scene within minutes of the gunshot.

"Before the police got here, my neighbors came outside to see if they could help [the victim,]" said the witness. "I was in shock, but so many people wanted to make sure the young man was ok."
