FedEx says it will move 19 million packages Monday, in what the company is calling its busiest day of the year.
FedEx has 300,000 employees plus an additional 20,000 seasonal staff working at plants nationwide to handle the increase.
UPS is also preparing for its busiest day on December 20tth when drivers will deliver more than 300 packages per second.
If you're mailing items overseas to troops in the military, Monday is the deadline to get the gifts out.
At the Post Office on Jahnke Road in South Richmond, customers say they're getting their packages in order and if you want them to make it by Christmas, there's no time to wait.
It's the holiday season and with everything that comes with it, comes the added pressure to get those gifts out on time.
"I'm going to mail some," said Jene Bailey.
Many customers were wanting to find out when they'd need to drop their packages off in order for the gifts to make it on time.
"I'm coming to get one of those boxes today," she said but admitted she wasn't prepared to mail the gifts just yet.
The U.S. Postal Service says to make sure your package makes it to another destination within the U.S. before Christmas, you should mail it by December 20th for First Class mail, December 21st for Priority, or December 22nd at the latest for Express mail.
The Post Office isn't the only option people are using. Monday, FedEx says it will move 19 million packages in what the company is calling its busiest day of the year. It has 300,000 employees plus an additional 20,000 seasonal staff working at plants nationwide to handle the increase.
"I've mailed packages before," said Ross Garofalo.
But he doesn't want to deal with the rush this year.
"This year I'm going to try to bring them to people so I get that face to face connection," he said.
Others say they've already gotten it out of the way.
"I don't like to be a last minute person. I know we can send it overnight and everything but I like to save money too," Ruth Scheider said with a laugh.
