Wallets thefts in Chesterfield Martins

Posted: Updated:

Police say a number of wallets have been stolen from shoppers inside the Martins grocery store on Midlothian Turnpike across from the Chesterfield Towne Center.

Chesterfield police say the thefts happened inside the store - near the salad bar, and in the frozen food aisle to name a couple – most recent on Thursday.

The suspect was caught on surveillance video and Martins is taking that video and is working with the police to make a positive identification.

Martin's manager Troy Golden says they have made some changes since the incidents.

"We have an active security team and increased our floor monitoring," said Golden.

Police say shoppers all around need to be more careful and aware of their surroundings. Police say there was a similar crime that was reported out of Chesterfield Towne Center on black Friday.

"We recommend you shouldn't leave your wallet alone in the shopping cart," said Golden.

Police are not releasing the surveillance video yet but say this suspect is a black man who appears to be in his mid to late 30s and about 6 feet tall. He had some facial hair at the time and was wearing a yellow jacket and black beanie.
