CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - L.C. Bird has almost always had a workhorse running back. But they've never had one who's doing what Paul Robertson is doing. His historic run, may just end with the first state title in Skyhawk history.
Robertson ran for almost 1800 yards during the regular season, and was named the Dominion District player of the year. But the senior has saved his best for the playoffs. He has rushed for 960 yards in two games, and has set the Bird single game rushing record the past two weeks. Against Varina in the Region Championship, Robertson scampered for 329 yards. And then rushed for 421 against Oakton in the state semifinals. He now stands just 249 yards away from 3,000 for his senior season.
Robertson said that college recruiters have paid attention during this run - he's been contacted by Division 1 schools Marshall and East Carolina over the past few weeks.
But he's got his eye on a more imminent opportunity - leading the Skyhawks to their first state championship Saturday at Scott Stadium against Ocean Lakes.
