Chinese food delivery man says armed robbers waited for him to arrive

A food delivery driver was ambushed by a pair of armed robbers in North Richmond, Tuesday night. The victim, an employee of New Chinatown Express, believes the suspects plotted to hold him up, once he got to the Highland Park neighborhood. He's asked NBC12 to conceal his identity, as the suspects are still at large.

The victim says the robbers were waiting for him, outside a home off Pollock Street. The block is rather dark, and set apart from other homes. He sensed something was wrong, after a woman answered the door and said she hadn't ordered anything.

"They used that address just to get me down there," said the driver.

The delivery driver says, when he went back to his car, he encountered the two men. The car's back, driver's side window was open. One of the suspects stuck a gun through that window, to his head. The men took any money he had, and the Chinese food.

"I felt the gun come out the back of my head, and that's when I pulled (the car) back really fast to get away from them," said the victim.

The delivery man made it safely back to the restaurant, and returned to work the next day. He says he needs the money to support himself, whether or not the nature of the job sometimes opens him to danger.

Robbers have targeted at least half a dozen food delivery drivers in Richmond, this past year.

Anyone who may have information on this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
