Crime Commission recommends changes to Spice laws

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

The State Crime Commission is also recommending changes that could finally get synthetic marijuana off store shelves.

Lawmakers have tried to ban the substance, but the chemists keep changing how they make the product. The crime commission endorsed adding even more chemicals to the list of banned substances under the law during their meeting Wednesday.

It also, voted to ask the Governor's office to investigate whether an existing law used to get Sudafed behind the counter because of meth labs could be used to get Spice off store shelves.

An endorsement by the commission does not ensure passage by the General Assembly but it  carries great weight with lawmakers. The General Assembly session starts in January.
