The U.S. Postal Service is offering customers an opportunity to process their applications for passports without the need for an appointment.
A passport fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the West End Branch of the Richmond Post Office located at 2220 Dabney Road.
Customers must appear with evidence of citizenship (usually a certified birth certificate), acceptable photo ID, and copies of both sides of acceptable photo ID.
IMPORTANT: Please see www.travel.state.gov for detailed information about what is acceptable ID and evidence of US citizenship. Customers' birth certificates must accompany their applications but will be returned.
Special requirements are in place for children – please visit the aforementioned website so you will be prepared.
The forms needed are also available on the State Department website: customers can fill them out in advance of their arrival, if they wish, as long as they DO NOT sign them in advance. They must be signed in the presence of a passport acceptance agent.
Since both parents must accompany children under the age of 16, the Postal Service is offering this Passport Fair opportunity as a convenience to parents who will not have to take children out of school and are more likely themselves to be available.
Again, please visit www.travel.state.gov to understand the many acceptable variations and requirements that accompany this process.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
