A Chesterfield teenager was shot in the face and had to be rushed to the hospital late Sunday night. Police say the suspect left the scene when they got the call.
Both the victim and suspect are minors. Investigators want to know why they had a gun and what lead to the teenager being shot in the face.
It happened just before 11:00 in the 6700 block of Iron Gate Drive. An officer tells us teenagers were hanging out, possibly cleaning a gun when it went off.
That's when a 16-year-old was shot in the face. He was taken to VCU Medical Center in critical condition, but he's expected to be okay.
We don't know who the gun belonged to or if officers will go after the parents of the minors who had the gun.
We do know officers are interviewing witnesses or anyone near the scene who may have some more information to shed light on this shooting that sent that teen to the hospital.
Police tell us they do have a suspect is in custody but they're not releasing any names due to the ages of the suspect and victim.
