Walker rises above condition to shine on court

Posted: Updated:
MIDLOTHIAN, VA (WWBT) -

Joe Walker is the first man off the bench for the Clover Hill boys varsity basketball team, but at first glance, one may think the odds are stacked against him.  Joe was born without half of his left arm, but while others may see it as a disadvantage, Joe chooses to see it in a different way.

The Clover Hill junior says that his mother taught him from a very young age that he could accomplish anything he wanted to and not to sell himself short just because of his circumstance.  He's taken that lesson to heart and has attacked life head on, including basketball.

Joe played on his first team in seventh grade and continued to work on the fundamentals.  This season is his first at Clover Hill, and he earned a spot on the Cavaliers' varsity team.  He's getting plenty of minutes and has developed quite a shot as well.

Joe hopes his playing days don't end when he leaves Clover Hill.  He has ambitions of playing college basketball and continuing his career.
