Goochland faces state semifinal rematch

GOOCHLAND, VA (WWBT) - Goochland lost in last year's state championship game, and then they lost 14 seniors to graduation.  But instead of rebuilding, they reloaded, and now the Bulldogs are one win away from getting back to the big game.

The Bulldogs play the same team they lost to in last year's state semifinals, Wilson Memorial, on Saturday.

Joe Fowler's young crew could have folded after starting the season 1-2.  But the seniors helped to lead the young players, and Goochland knocked off 10 straight wins, with eight of them by 20 points or more.

Goochland has won 7 of their last 8 playoff games.. and are trying to win their second state title in six years.  One thing in their favor, in three of the last five years Gretna knocked them out of the playoffs, including last year's state championship.  But Gretna was one and done in this year's postseason.

Fowler is hoping his team is peaking at the right time - last week's state quarterfinal showdown wasn't even close (a 63-36 beatdown of King William).

This young, but experienced team just might have what it takes - to get that one more win than they couldn't get last year.
