The former owners of Mo' Money Taxes are back with another tax preparation business. CEO Markey Granberry is currently being investigated in at least four states, including Virginia, but plans to open Marquis Taxes next year.
Last tax season, Richmond's Better Business Bureau gave the group an "F" rating after receiving a dozen customer complaints.
Customers said after filing with Mo' Money, they never received their tax refunds, had been charged exorbitant hidden fees or had a check from the company bounce.
Tom Gallagher with Richmond's Better Business Bureau is familiar with the complaints against Mo' Money Taxes. He didn't know Granberry planned to open Marquis Taxes and says, the BBB will keep a watchful eye on where he sets up shop.
"We will make sure people know the principles in Marquis Taxes were involved in another business with a serious past," said Gallagher.
Granberry released a statement via text message to our sister station in Memphis - where Granberry is based.
He said, [The issues that occurred last year were the fault of a third party vendor which we have disassociated ourself with and we will own n operate 1off. marquis taxes.]
Marquis Taxes plans to open next year in Memphis.
