SC (SternoClavicular) joint injuries

CHESTER, VA (WWBT) -

He is one of the biggest Quarterbacks in the game and the recent injury to Ben Rothlisberger is serious and could happen to any athlete playing a contact support.

Dr. Larry Benson is treating SternoClavicular joint injuries. The SC joint connects the sternum or "breast plate" to the shoulder.

Symptoms include anterior and superior chest wall pain after an injury.

This is a rare injury that usually occurs with motor vehicle accidents or with collision sports.

It is serious because posterior dislocation can be a medical emergency as the clavicle may compress several vital organs. Surgery could be required.
