
WAVERLY, VA (WWBT) -- Virginia State Police are investigating after a Waverly Police officer shot a man on the scene of a domestic dispute call, Thursday morning.
The call came in at approximately 1:30 a.m. for an incident at a home in the 100 block of New Street. Wavery Police responded with a Sussex County Sheriff's Deputy assisting.
According to police, when officers arrived and attempted to take a male subject into custody, the man refused and an altercation ensued. A Waverly officer then shot the man.
The man shot by the officer was taken to Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, then flown by State Police Med-Flight to VCU Medical Center in Richmond.
The Sussex deputy was injured during the struggle, according to State Police, and was taken to Southside Regional for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
