Students could face penalties for Hampden-Sydney election night incident

FARMVILLE, VA (WWBT) -

Some students at Hampden-Sydney College could face disciplinary action after an election night incident.

Students gathered in front of the Minority Student Union building allegedly yelling racial insults, throwing bottles, and setting off fireworks when President Obama won re-election.

Hampden-Sydney College says five of about 40 students involved will face a campus judicial proceeding.

A student panel will decide if there were violations of the school's code of conduct. If found in violation, students could face probation or even expulsion.

The proceedings are scheduled after Thanksgiving break.
