Richmond and Bon Secours host Redskins meetings Tuesday

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

The deal to build the proposed Redskins training camp in Richmond is moving forward, but there is still one controversy over the project.

Several measures have been approved by the planning commission according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

According to the paper, that includes giving Bon Secours the lease to city owned Westhampton School on Richmond's West End. In return the health system financially supports building the training camp and gets naming rights.

According the paper, at least three city council members say they don't support the current plan.

First District Councilman Bruce Tyler, who represents the Westhampton area, says his district was not involved in the deal involving the West End school. In order for construction to even start, it needs approval by the majority of the city council.

So Tuesday night, the community is invited to voice its opinion. The Richmond City Council will hold a special meeting from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to discuss the plan and its details. Bon Secours will then hold its own community meeting. It's from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the St. Mary's hospital auditorium on Bremo Road.

Other council members say the city's school system will lose in this deal. Neighbors who live in the area have expressed concerns about losing the green space and not enough parking in the area.
