DINWIDDIE, VA (WWBT) -

Military police have confirmed two people are dead as a result of a fire at Fort Lee.

No information is being released about the victims at this time around 3 a.m.

Neighbors in an adjoining duplex called 911 when their fire alarm went off. Hopewell Emergency Services arrived at the home on Belleau Wood Road within seven minutes of the call. They found the two bodies on the first floor of a duplex. Officials say they were the only two residents of the home.

The neighbors duplex suffered significant smoke and fire damage and the military is now finding them other housing.

Fire officials say the home where the fatalities occurred had a smoke alarm and they're checking to see if it was working.

The Ft. Lee Criminal Investigations Division is now in charge of the investigation. Right now, they haven't named a cause or said where it started. They don't believe foul play is a factor, but they have not ruled it out.
