Henrico Public Schools collect items for Sandy victims

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - There is a 53-foot truck on its way to Sandy Survivors in New York and it's filled with supplies from our area.

Several Henrico Public Schools joined forces this weekend trying to collect as many supplies as possible.

People donated more than a thousand coats and dropped off boxes of baby supplies, toiletries, and non perishable foods.

This idea to collect donations started with two girls, one from Moody Middle School, the other from Glen Allen High School and they got their mom involved too.

"I have wanted to do this for a long time. You get a lot of good ideas, never have time to follow through and it was just a really great time with so many people in need and so much that's needed," said Coordinator, Terri Hague.

The truck is headed to St. Jacobi Church in downtown Brooklyn, it should arrive Monday morning.
