Suspects armed in Short Pump jewelry heist

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

Three men are on the run after robbing the Kay Jewelers store at Short Pump Town Center.

"One or more of the suspects was carrying a black shopping bag and it had a logo of a specific store on there," said Henrico Police Spokesperson, Linda Toney.

That specific logo is of Hugo Boss – a store not even at Short Pump Town Center.

Police say the suspects robbed Kay Jewelers, on Tuesday just before closing time.

Henrico police say the three men entered the store posing as customers.

"Two of these three subjects walked into the store, acted as if they were shopping for several minutes, two of them produced a hand gun and made demands of the employees," said Toney.

Police believe the men carried out the stolen goods in the black paper shopping bag and say these men are considered armed and dangerous.

For shoppers - a jewelry heist like this is surprising - especially because of its location.

"You wouldn't think that would happen around here as much as maybe somewhere else...it's scary knowing that someone could have gotten hurt," said Mary Kurtz.

The manager at Kay Jewelers says they are letting the police handle the investigation.
