
Nearly 19,000 people participated in the Anthem Richmond Marathon, some hoping to win, others hoping to set a personal best, and some just with the goal of finishing, but two exceptional athletes claiming top honors this morning.
Kipkoech Ruto of Kenya claimed the men's marathon title. He ran a time of 2:15:15, beating his nearest competitor by 40 seconds.
Aziza Aliyu of Ethiopia is your women's winner as she smoked the rest of the field, coming in an amazing 31 and a half minutes ahead of second place with a time of 2:40:21.
In addition to the two marathon victors, Mengstu Nebsi took the American Family Fitness Half-Marathon men's title, with Hirut Beyene of Ethiopia winning the women's half-marathon title.
Ryan Hill and Neely Spence are the HCA VA 8k winners respectively.
Spence set the course record in that women's 8k with a time of 25:22.
