Spiders two wins away from playoff berth

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Six fifth-year seniors for the University of Richmond have had quite the roller coaster of careers. But their senior day is shaping up to be a celebration of what's been an incredible final year.

Those seniors have lived through five coaches during their years at U of R, if you include getting recruited by David Clawson in 2007. They've been in Richmond for a national championship, Latrell Scott leaving in disgrace, and a winless CAA season.

But in Danny Rocco's first season, the team is two wins away from securing a playoff spot, and one win from possibly making the postseason.

The 6-3 Spiders host Delaware Saturday at 3:30.  The Spiders are fresh off a 39-0 thrashing of URI, and Rocco admitted Wednesday that he's been incredibly impressed with how his team has improved each week as the season goes along.

At Rocco's first meeting with the team, he told them that this would not be a rebuilding season.  The way that he's come to work has earned the respect of his players, and he admitted that their hard work and professionalism has made him a better coach.

Saturday's game against the Blue Hens will be the 28th all-time meeting between the two teams dating back to the 1931 season.  Delaware has a 19-8 record in the series, but UR has won three of the last four.
