A woman stole a van, then led police on chase through Colonial Heights that ended in a fiery crash on the Boulevard, according to officers.
The Alliance Medical Transport van was stolen near the VCU Medical Center in Richmond around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. A couple hours later Colonial Heights officers later spotted it near Arlington Avenue in Colonial Heights.
Police pursued the driver until she crashed the car into a light pole, then picked up speed and hit two police cruisers. Then at the intersection of Temple Avenue and Boulevard, the stolen van slammed into another car, which burst into flames.
"I noticed the burgundy van they were chasing was coming down the boulevard with no headlights on," said Christy George captured video on her iPhone showing officers from VCU, Colonial Heights and Chesterfield surrounding the scene. "We noticed it was smoking really bad and flames started coming out from underneath the hood within a few minutes it was halfway engulfed."
She says the suspect was pulled from the car before the flames started.
People who saw the crash say they can't believe the injuries were not worse.
"The other vehicle, the whole front end was completely smashed," she said. "It knocked the whole bumper off the car."
The suspect ended up back at VCU medical center to be treated for her wounds. She is now facing more charges. Two other people were taken to the hospital but are expected to be okay.
