State lab results reveal mold, not a bird, was in a packet of Uncle Ben's ready rice reportedly purchased in Goochland. Two customers contacted NBC12 after they say a bird was inside their Uncle Ben's Ready Rice packet.
The women said when they opened the packet of rice, the smell was horrendous and they thought there was a dead animal inside.
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services investigated. Lab results reveal it was actually mold. Representatives from Uncle Ben's told NBC12 it was probably mold back when we first brought you this story. They say they've seen it before in other cases, caused by a small hole in the bag.
