Matoaca mourns loss of assistant football coach

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Matoaca High School is mourning the loss of an assistant football coach. Longtime assistant Richard Stegemerten passed away Monday after suffering a heart attack.

Stegemerten, known as "Steg" to many of his players, spent time coaching the junior varsity football team, and after moving up to varsity, coached special teams and also worked with the defensive backs.

Warriors athletic director Larry Stewart said that the team will honor Stegemerten in some way during Friday night's home football game against Prince George, he's just not sure how they will go about doing that yet.
