Dominion Power prepares for Hurricane Sandy

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Dominion's in-house meteorologists are keeping a close eye on Hurricane Sandy.

"A lot of internal preparations are going on behind the scenes, with a lot of our experts with logistics,  being to participate in mutual aid phone calls, whether or not we need out of state crews to be on standby," said David Botkins of Dominion.

Dominion says crews have aggressively worked on trimming branches and cutting trees near power lines. They've invested millions in bettering their response times and now have a mobile command center they can deploy to hard hit areas.

For customers, there's a new way to report a power outage right from your smart phone.

Go to m.dom.com and click on Virginia Power. All you need is your phone number and the last digits of your social security number to file a report.

"We're ready, we're prepared, we drill, we test, we invest, so, if there's an impact, and if there are power outages you can rest assure that dominion will be out there working 24/7," said Botkins.

You can also call Dominion to report an outage. Keep this number handy this weekend: 1-866-dom-help, that's 1-866-366-4357.
