Cosby substitute teacher arrested for inappropriate relationship with student

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

A former substitute teacher at Cosby High School has been arrested for having inappropriate contact with a student.

Chesterfield Police arrested Anna Michelle Walters and charged her with one count of taking indecent liberties with a child and one count of carnal knowledge.

Police say the charges stem from one incident last school year with a student in a classroom at Cosby High School after school hours. The student was a minor at the time and is still a minor.

"From the ongoing school division investigation, very serious allegations have been raised and unanswered questions remain," said Shawn Smith, spokesman for Chesterfield Schools. "The investigations by the school division and law enforcement have already resulted in arrest warrants."

The investigation began on October 12 concerning Walters' relationship with a former student who is an adult. However, no charges are being pursued in that situation. Instead, police say the investigation led to additional students who were minors. In those cases, police say the relationships didn't involve any criminal activity.

Detectives obtained warrants against Walters Wednesday, based on the investigation.  She is currently being held in the Chesterfield County Jail pending her appearance in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Thursday at 2 p.m.
