This week in our Politifact Virginia report we fact check a claim from Tim Kaine in response to an attack ad. The ad, paid for by George Allen, hammers a statement Kaine made on taxes in a recent debate.
Kaine argues in his response that quote "the facts are that the tax burden on Virginia families was lower under Tim Kaine than under George Allen." But is that true?
According to Politifact Virginia, that claim is "mostly false" Reporter Nancy Madsen says Kaine's numbers back up his claim, but don't tell the whole story.
"The economists told us it was because of the recession, especially in corporate and sales taxes. States around the nation saw tax revenues fall before personal income dropped," said Madsen.
