Henrico police are reminding pet owners to get their animals vaccinated after a rabid raccoon was found in the west end.
Animal Protection says a dead raccoon, likely killed by a dog, was found in the 8400 block of Marroit Road Saturday.
The State Lab examined the raccoon and found it tested positive for rabies. The dog is now being quarantined for 45 days. No other animal or human exposures have been reported.
Henrico Police Animal Protection would like to remind everyone to be sure to keep their pets' rabies vaccinations current to ensure the safety of their pets and our community.
Please report abnormal wildlife behavior to the Henrico Police Non-Emergency Communications Center at (804) 501-5000.
