Richmond police searching for 2 stabbing suspects

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Richmond police are asking for your help in catching two women who stabbed a woman who works at VCU, last Tuesday night. Investigators released computerized, composite drawings of what both suspects look like, according to the victim.

The assailants followed the woman on her way to the MCV campus, and cornered her near 8th and East Marshall Streets. The victim, who's asked us to keep her identity concealed for safety, says she doesn't know the suspects or why she'd be targeted.

The mother of three-year-old twin boys works nights so she can care for her children during the day. "I could have lost my life. They (the suspects) don't know what they did. They almost took me away from my kids," said the victim.

The victim says she was getting off the bus just before 10:30 p.m.. One woman was waiting on the bench for her. That woman abruptly began to follow her across the street.

"I walk fast. I was like, 'Why is she trying to catch up to me?'" continued the stabbing victim.

Another assailant was waiting behind the corner of library. The victim says that woman carried a screwdriver. The woman who followed her across the street revealed a knife.

"She stabbed me in the head with a screwdriver, and the other one stabbed me in my face," said the mother, who's now recovering from deep gashes which will likely leave scars.

The suspects continued to lash out at her, but the victim says she was able to get away. She ran three blocks to 11th Street, while trying to control the bleeding. VCU police helped her to the hospital. However, the victim says she's now afraid to leave her home. "I'm very scared for my safety. I'm scared to go to work…I don't deserve this at all. And it hurts. My wounds hurt."

Police don't believe this assault was random, and are working on some leads. However, investigators say they really need the public's help in identifying these attackers. If you know anything about this stabbing, call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
