Spider hoops starting practice Friday

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Derrick Williams has improved mightily over his time at UR.  The man known most for his size, hopes to be known as much for his skill this season.

The 6'6" 270 lb power forward has worked on his conditioning and his offensive game this offseason.  Williams will be the leader for the team's frontcourt this season, and will be relied on to stay on the court as long as possible.

Williams says that he's also added a fadeway jumper to his repertoire.

As practice opens Friday, Chris Mooney will continue to get a better look at what the rest of the frontcourt could look like.  After playing in Italy this offseason, Mooney believes that the younger players have gotten some much-needed court time, and will be more ready to play this year.

The Spiders were picked to finish 10th in the A-10 this year.
