Masked men rob painters at gunpoint in Hopewell

HOPEWELL, VA (WWBT) -

Police are looking for two masked men who robbed a pair of painters at gunpoint in Hopewell.

A 14-year-old and his father were painting an empty apartment at the Canterbury Townhouses around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when two men, each with a gun, robbed them, police said. Police say the crooks were wearing goggles, a black bandana and one had on a fake fur coat.

The painters were working on a vacant apartment in the 4000 block of Amery Court.

Neighbors are worried. They want the crooks caught.

"I moved out here to try and get away from all the crazies and it seems the crazies are coming. I'm ready to move again," said neighbor, Joan Martnishn. "I saw their working van. I was surprised they were working so late. Sometimes they do it if they're in a hurry to get an apartment ready for someone."

Neighbor Robert Pettaway calls the crime disgusting.

"I think people should get up and get a job and have their own money like everybody else," Pettaway explained.

The thieves ran off after the crime. Neighbors are on alert.

"When we go out we don't leave the doors open or the windows open. You got to take care and watch your back at all times," said Martnishn.

No one was injured during the incident.
