Lyberty Anderson stood up to the boys, and pulled off maybe the shot of her life. The junior at Manchester High School drained an eagle putt on the 18th hole, to win the Group AAA state golf tournament.
Anderson went into the hole trailing James River's Jason Park by one stroke. Park finished one s hot back. Anderson is the second female ever to win the tournament. Chantilly's Jenny Suh won it in 2002.
Anderson did play from the gold tees, which were over 1,000 yards shorter than the blue tees the boys played from.
Anderson continues her remarkable career - having won the city championship twice before turning 16 years old, she also led her Manchester High School team to a Dominion District championship this year.
In a great day for the Central Region Mills Godwin claimed the team title with a five-shot victory over Chantilly. The Eagles posted a two-day score of 592. Thomas Dale finished seventh with 619. The Eagles were led by last year's champion, Sophomore Mark Lawrence, who finished with the team's best score.
