Route 10 was reopened Tuesday afternoon in both directions at Enon Church Road, after a car crash downed power lines and shut down the road.
The clean up and power restoration closed the road for nearly 13 hours in Chesterfield. Dominion Power crews first responded when the power lines came down at 11:30 p.m. Monday night, after a vehicle slammed into a utility pole. Crews finally reopened roads around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Dominion reports that initially, 2,300 customers were without power, but that 75 percent of the power had been restored by 4:00 a.m.
Still, many local businesses were without power, including a doctor's office. Patients had showed up for medical procedures that could not wait.
"We couldn't follow through with their procedures due to loss of power," said Amanda Babukovic, a nurse with Tri-Cities Gastroenterology. "We had to take several patients to the hospital with medical issues that needed to have these procedures done this morning."
Crews worked through the morning commute, causing Route 10 to remain closed and frustrating many. Some drivers said it took them 30 minutes to travel a few hundred feet.
"There was tons of traffic," Babukovic said. "I couldn't get out of my neighborhood because the traffic was backed up so much."
