RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

You can now find the lowest gas prices on the NBC12 News app.

Gas prices usually drop after Labor Day and dive before presidential elections. This year in Richmond, the prices have come down a bit, but still average $3.55 a gallon.

With the NBC12 news app, you could find gas for nearly a quarter cheaper per gallon.

You may know that you can find the lowest prices on gas at NBC12.com, by clicking on Traffic and looking at the Pump Patrol page.

A quick glance at the map will show you how much gas costs around town, what the trend is locally and nationally, as well as where the cheapest gas is in the area. The prices here are all user submitted, so you can also report prices you see at gas stations.

Thursday, a driver reported the Exxon on Hull Street and Lake Harbor Drive in Midlothian is charging just $3.31 a gallon, 24 cents lower than the area's average.

But not everyone checks the website before heading out the door. If you're on the go and want to find the lowest prices, fire up the NBC12 News app. If you click the more tab, you'll see a link to the Pump Patrol. A touch of the finger and you'll be able to see the list of the lowest prices, just as you would online.

You can also find gas prices near you by clicking the link for Richmond Gas Prices at the bottom of the screen. If you let the app know where you are, you can find gas prices at the closest station to you.

Of course, we don't want you using your smartphone while you're behind the wheel. Please be safe and pull over. A good deal isn't worth added danger on the roads.
