Spiders moving on from loss to battle Villanova

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

The Richmond Spiders gave 4th ranked ODU a game, but morally victories count for nothing in football.  Now they need a short memory - because they have another tough showdown Saturday.

3-2 UR travels to 4-1 Villanova in an important conference clash.  Both teams have had similar history recently - they've both won national championships in the last six years, and seen the other side of the spectrum.  Last year the Spiders went 3-8, and the Wildcats went 2-9.  Now they both seem to be bouncing back, so UR knows they'll have a fight on their hands.

This is an odd turnaround for the Spider defense - they go from playing a pass-first spread offense, to a run-first option offense.  But Danny Rocco believes that will actually keep his players more focus as they prepare this week.

Villanova head coach Andy Talley has been in Philly for 28 years, and he's dominated the Spiders in his tenure. He has a 17-6 record against Richmond.

Saturday's game marks the 31st times that the two teams have met on the field, with the teams alternating wins dating back to the 2005 season.
