The stars seem to be aligning over Chesterfield, as a string of winning lottery tickets totaling $1.4 million have been bought in the county. The big jackpot, a $1 million Powerball winner, hasn't yet been claimed.
The winning $1 million ticket was bought at the Food Lion at 1100 Courthouse Road for the Saturday drawing. The winning numbers for that drawing were 14-18-28-29-57 and the Powerball number 8. This ticket matched the first five numbers and missed only the Powerball number.
The winner still has 180 days from the drawing date to claim the prize.
Two other prizes have already been claimed. Brent Smith bought a Queen of Hearts ticket from the Lucky's store in Woodlake and won the top prize of $125,000.
"I scratched the ticket, then I double and triple and quadruple-checked it," he said.
Anh N. Nguyen of Chesterfield also hit a jackpot, using her birthday and the hour she bought her ticket to play the Mega Millions. She bought her ticket at the 7-Eleven at 6131 Jefferson Davis Highway in Richmond. She matched the first five numbers, but missed the Mega Ball. Still, she won $250,000.
