Father and son killed in Spotsylvania plane crash

SPOTSYLVANIA, VA (WWBT) -

State Police are investigating a plane crash that killed a father and son in Spotsylvania County.

Around 5:14 p.m. Saturday, 48 year old John B. Morton, Jr. of Stafford, was working on the Cessna 150M single-engine plane and conducting take-offs and landings from Shannon Airport.

During one of these exercises, the plane crash landed, striking a tree.

Morton and his 13 year old son, Kyle J. Morton, also of Stafford, both died at the scene.

No one on the ground was injured.

Their remains are at the Chief Medical Examiner's office in Richmond for examination and autopsy.

 The NTSB and FAA are also investigating the incident.
