Armstrong making strides under Moody

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - There are many more orange jerseys out on the fields of Cool Lane in the afternoons.  The Armstrong High football team has opened with a 2-1 start under first year coach Kedrick Moody. His impact can be seen most obviously in the number of players that are coming out to practice.

Last year there were times when only 10-12 players would come out in the afternoons.  This season, there is around 40 day in and day out.  Moody is working to change the culture at Armstrong, which was difficult because he wasn't hired until June 1st.  But Moody, who has owned and coached the semipro Virginia Vipers, hit the ground running.  Or lifting, rather - instituting a new weightlifting program that has worked wonders on his young team.

Armstrong opened with a win over Thomas Jefferson, and then followed that with a loss to John Marshall and a win over Colonial Heights this past Friday.  Moody has set as one of the goals for his team is to win their district opener - which is this Friday at Glen Allen.
