
Two truck fires closed all lanes of I-64 West in New Kent for nearly eight hours Wednesday.
A tractor-trailer and a box truck crashed at 1 p.m. Wednesday at mile marker 205, near the Route 249 exit. The box truck ran off the road onto the right shoulder of the roadway, striking the improperly stopped tractor-trailer, reports State Police
The impact resulted in a fire that engulfed both vehicles. A nearby wooded area also caught fire.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to VCU Medical Center, while the driver of the box truck was treated at the scene. Both suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was charged with improper stopping on the interstate. The driver of the box truck was charged with reckless driving, police said.
Both lanes were reopened at 8:50 p.m.
