Henrico's Planning Commission unanimously approved a plan to put a new Walmart in the county's west end. The 5-0 vote followed an hour-long public hearing Wednesday morning.
The store will be built in the Reynolds Crossing office park near the intersection of Forest Avenue and Glenside Drive. Developers say the Walmart will be more upscale than their normal store, with more earth tones and stonework. Furthermore, Henrico County planners say the store and its surrounding retail establishments will resemble the Shoppes at Westgate in Short Pump.
Neighbors in the nearby Charles Glen subdivision maintained their objections to the plans, including concerns about traffic and noise.
A representative for the developer estimated construction would begin in the spring of 2013, and a grand opening in late 2013 or early 2014.
The planning commission's vote is final and the plans do not require any further action from county officials.
