ACTS OF KINDNESS: A little help from an old friend

Posted: Updated:
GOOCHLAND, VA (WWBT) -

Two childhood friends from Goochland County hadn't seen each other in decades until the beginning of this year, when they found each other on Facebook.

Since then, they've become inseparable, leaning on each other through major life challenges.

They're embracing each other again today in an Act of Kindness surprise.

Kimberly Pierce calls her best friend, Tammie Keller, the most caring, upbeat, inspiring, person.

"She bounces into a room and says, 'Here I am, don't everybody applaud at once,' I mean she is light," said Pierce.

These two have roots that run deep in rural Goochland County.

"She lived on a cow farm, I lived on a horse farm, isn't that funny?"

The fun faded when they went to separate middle and high schools.

"We didn't see each other for years."

More than 30 years... fast forward to 2012.

"January, I joined Facebook," said Pierce. "Here's comes someone I haven't seen since I was a child back into my life. We haven't been separated since."

Their husbands and children have also bonded. The friends have supported each other through sickness.

"Fibromyalgia, I have, we both, we share that. If she thinks my voice even sounds funny, she's here, whether she has the gas money or not she's gone fine it and she's here. She's had cancer, but she's a survivor, she has one kidney, she's had a brain bleed."

Tammie's husband Mike is dealing with double knee surgery and the family's been forced to move from their home.

"They had to move on the spur of the moment, they had to leave right then. It actually depleted their savings."

Sabrina: "What do you hope this Act of Kindness will mean to them?"

Pierce: "It will mean that they do not lose their apartment."

Sabrina: "Here is one-hundred, two-hundred, three-hundred dollars, we hope it helps."

Pierce told her friend to come on over for girls afternoon and right on cue we heard the car roll in.

Pierce: "Tams, got a surprise...say, 'hi Channel 12!'"

Keller: "...uhh, hello."

Tammie was not expecting a reality tv episode...

Keller: "Shhh, there's a camera, (laughs) what's going on?"

...but she was a good sport about her friend's surprise.

Sabrina: "You have a friend who thinks the world of you."

Keller: "Aww, and I think the world of her too (hug)."

Pierce: "For all the wonderful things that you do and always putting everyone first, especially me. Well guess what, I don't want you and Mike to lose your home, so here, one-hundred, two-hundred, three-hundred."

Keller: "Oh my gosh. I do things for people cause I like to, I don't look for anything in return."

Pierce: "I know, that's why I did it."

Keller: "I always tell Kim, I'm here for you no matter what, day or night and I tell everybody that."

Pierce: "For the first time, I get to be her inspiration...makes me feel good."
