Richmond police investigate suspicious death in Oakwood neighborhood

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Richmond police are investigating a suspicious death inside a home on the 1,200 block of North 38th Street. Residents crowded around the crime scene at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday. However, investigators wouldn't give specifics on the victim or what caused the death. Neighbors say the incident may have been a fight that turned deadly. Several people said they heard arguing and fighting at the house.

Bellamy says one of the men made a call, and then minutes later, police arrived, swarming the home.

Investigators say the situation was a domestic matter, meaning no random intruders were involved. One neighbor who spoke to police, but wouldn't speak on camera, says he saw a man leaving the home with blood on his clothing. The neighbor says he spoke with that man, who revealed that he was aggravated with a woman living at the house.

Officials say a man, deemed a person of interest, has come forward and talked with police. There's no word yet from authorities on the identity of the victim, or if any charges have been filed.

Meantime, neighbors on the block were left unsettled, on what would have usually been a quiet, Sunday afternoon.

"For something like this to happen on this block, it's unusual. But hey, it can happen anywhere in America, I'm learning," said William Thacker, who says he's lived on the block for four years.
