Exercise induced vocal cord dysfunction

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

There are many aches and pains that could occur from working out, but while you may be concerned about your legs, arms or back, what about your vocal cords?

According to Dr. Larry Benson, it's called exercise induced vocal cord dysfunction.

The symptoms include shortness of breath, coughing and wheezing during and after exercise.

It could be the result of exercise induced asthma; that needs to be ruled out first.

Many times this problem is benign. An inhaler of another type of medicine may be helpful. Breathing exercises with speech therapy is one of the best treatment options.
