Deadly shooting suspects on the run in Richmond

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Two men are on the run and wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in the city's East end.

One man is dead.

NBC12 got video of the biggest piece of evidence towed from the crime scene; the car where the victim's body was found.

Police say a person flagged down an officer patrolling Newton Road and pointed out the car on the side, near the railroad tracks.

"He drove down there and discovered the driver still in the car with apparent gunshot wounds," says Gene Lepley, a spokesperson for Richmond Police.

Officers say they soon discovered two other men had been in that car with the victim and had taken off.  The victim is described only as a man in his 30's. The description of the two suspects is also vague, but police say two men with beards were seen leaving the scene.

A K-9 unit searched near businesses a few blocks from where the car was found.

Newton Road from the Richmond side at Potomac Street to Bickerstaff Road in Henrico had to be shut down.

"We have our forensics crew on the scene, our investigators and we're processing the vehicle," says Lepley.

People who work near the railroad tracks were forced to avoid the area while investigators gathered evidence.

"In terms of crime, I don't see to be a real problem," says Stuart Harlow who works near by.

Harlow says there has been theft in the area, but he's never seen anything deadly until now.

"We work day and night, but we don't have any concerns about any crime coming into the actual business," he said.

Police believe this is an isolated incident and so far have not connected it to any other crimes in the city.
