
A former VCU student was sentenced Wednesday on involuntary manslaughter and DUI in a deadly downtown Richmond crash.
23-year-old Varinder Chahal will serve one year and three months behind bars for the crash that killed 19-year-old Carolina Perez and injured two others. He received five years in prison with four years suspended for involuntary manslaughter and 12 months with nine months suspended for a DUI charge. He also will pay $1,000 and have his driver's license suspended for one year.
Chahal apologized at the sentencing for the crash on S. 2nd and East Canal Street February 22.
